Debuting this Spring, TOP Sports is proud to launch a multi-sport competitive model for youth in Toronto. The model, which combines hockey, soccer, and lacrosse, will serve as the ultimate well-rounded sports experience for youth, prioritizing skill development, local facilities, and quality coaching across all sports while ensuring there are no schedule conflicts.
Our team is committed to providing the best youth sports experience possible, prioritizing development and enjoyment over winning at all costs. Our belief is that by exposing kids to as many sports as possible at young ages we can create better individual sport athletes in later years.
#1 - Quality practice time over quantity of games.
#2 - Consistent, convenient, manageable schedule that allows for and encourages multi-sport play.
#3 - Focus on long term athletic development that promotes well rounded athletes.
#4 - High quality coaching that builds character.
TOP Sports believes in taking a long term approach to the development of youth athletes. We believe that multi-sport play, over time, is essential to the creation of a well rounded and successful athlete. As kids mature and grow, we think the most versatile athletes become the best players in each individual sport.
At TOP, we strongly disagree with the current trend of early specialization in youth sports, where one sport dominates the allocation of time, effort and family resources. Early specialization, among other things, robs kids of the joys of experimenting and learning new sports. It also hinders longer term development by increasing the pressure and prospects of burnout at an early age. Instead of being places to grow, thrive and have fun, youth sports have essentially become "professionalized" where winning and rank among peers is prioritized.
Early specialization is forcing young athletes to proverbially put “all their eggs in one basket”, and we believe this is a disservice to our children.
Science shows us that multi-sport participation is better for kids' overall development than early sport specialization, so why is it so difficult for kids to play more than one or two sports competitively during the year without any schedule overlap?
With our Multi-sport model, we solve this problem by giving kids the opportunity to play three competitive sports in one calendar year, with no schedule overlap, very little travel time, and seasonal schedules. That means a more well rounded sport experience, and more time back into families lives, and less headache to allow your child to play more than one sport.
Our hockey program runs from September - March, currently offering development teams for ages 5-12 in Midtown Toronto and The Beaches.
Our soccer program currently offering program for ages 5-12 in Midtown Toronto, with the season running from April - October. During the summer months of July and August we take a break, allowing kids to be kids and families to have their lives back.
Our lacrosse program currently offering program for ages 5-12 in Midtown Toronto, with the season running from April - October. During the summer months of July and August we take a break, allowing kids to be kids and families to have their lives back.
"I played everything. I played lacrosse, hockey, soccer, track and field. I was a big believer that you played hockey in the winter and when the season was over you hung up the skates and you played something else." - Wayne Gretzky
