Welcome to our new 'Powerskating & Skills' program, the ultimate hockey program for boys and girls ages 6-10 who are ready to take their skills to the next level and develop a solid base of skating, edgework, and skills! This program is perfect for players who are playing at the Rep, Select, or Houseleague level and who could benefit from specific skills training. Our team of highly experienced coaches are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of the game in a positive and challenging environment, ensuring each player is working their hardest to improve their skills while also having a ton of fun.
Overview
'Powerskating & Skills' generally begin with a fast-paced powerskating session, focusing on forward strides, crossovers, backward skating, proper posture, edges, and more. From there, players are split into small-groups and will rotate through skills stations on the ice, working on shooting, passing, game situations, puck races, and everything in between. We believe that small-group stations are essential to provide players with the necessary feedback to improve their skills, and ensure players are actively participating in drills, not standing around and watching.
In addition to 'Powerskating & Skills', players will participate in Game-Based Stations with the goal of helping players translate their new skills into a game-like environment. This progression from technical instruction to constraint-based games to gameplay helps participants learn and master the fundamental skills of hockey faster, while also helping to foster a love for the sport. Our programs are designed to align with the latest recommendations of Hockey Canada’s Long-Term Athletic Development Model.
Programming Note: This is not a Learn-to-Play program. Participants MUST complete a Learn-to-Play program first before continuing on to the Development Program. All ice sessions include a 10-minute window for the Zamboni, ice times are typically 50 minutes.
