NEW this year, TOP Sports is proud to introduce our Student-Coach Leadership Program for high school students looking to develop leadership and coaching skills in a fun and passionate environment alongside our senior coaches and program directors. Applicants should have a keen interest in learning about positive coaching, Long-Term Athletic Development, and giving back to youth sports by building passion for sport and developing character in all players.
Our student-coach leadership program consists of 20-40 hours of practical coach training in hockey or lacrosse environments, and can take the form of running drills in practice, creating development plans, assisting with games & scrimmages, and providing support at tournaments and festivals.
Participants in this program will graduate with the following certifications at no cost:
Depending on which program you will be working with, most events will take place in Midtown Toronto, and responsibilities will include coaching team practices, skills classes, or camps. Students do not need to have any coaching experience, but should expect to be pushed out of their comfort zone and willing to learn from our experienced coaches. Student-coaches will need to be responsible and motivated with excellent communication skills.
Most practices and games will be scheduled on weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on which program you will be working with. Some travel to tournaments and festivals may be required, but will be scheduled well in advance and transportation will be provided.
This program is on a volunteer basis and is a great way to complete the mandatory volunteer hours required to graduate high school. All materials and resources will be provided by TOP Sports, as well as all coaching apparel and tracksuits. A successful coach will have the opportunity to pursue paid coaching jobs upon graduation.
If you are a passionate and engaging student looking to gain leadership and coaching skills don't hesitate to apply now by emailing your resume to Kevin@topsports.ca.
