TOP Hockey Overview

Program Overview

TOP Hockey is proud to offer six competitive hockey teams based in Midtown Toronto & The Beaches for the 2020-2021 season. Currently offering programs for player born between 2009-2014, the TOP Hockey program offers a unique approach to competitive hockey by offering local ice-time, manageable schedules and quality coaching, all while improving players' individual skills and ensuring enjoyment is our number one priority.

What makes us different?

We believe in a well-rounded approach to helping your kids develop on and off the ice. We structure our practices so that players are placed into small groups rotating through stations focusing on individual skills, technical instruction, and game-based learning. We believe our small group format is essential for kids to get individual feedback, quality coaching, and high level engagement. We believe that the values learned from hockey (discipline, accountability, and leadership), are ones that will transcend well beyond sport, and we aim to build those values from day one. We will push your kids to get better by creating a fun, engaging, and disciplined environment conducive to learning, and will always have your child's best interests at heart.

Quick FAQ's

What type of level is this? Are you a select or rep team?

Valid question - and one that we get a lot. TOP Hockey is a competitive hockey program with a different philosophy than most. We believe in the individual development of all players, taking a long-term approach with players to ensure they discover passion for sport and enjoy playing the game first, then ensuring we teach the proper fundamentals before progressing. We compete in rep tournaments and against rep teams.

So who do you play against? Are you part of the NYHL or GTHL?

Again, good question. We are not part of the NYHL or GTHL, and we compile our own season schedule through local games and local tournaments. We play against a lot of teams from South-Western Ontario, many that play in the ORHL, but we also play against local clubs from Toronto. Depending on the age group, we play between 7-25 games per season, including a few tournaments and our TOP Hockey festivals, which we run for each age group throughout the season. There is no shortage of games with our teams, and we believe we play an age-appropriate number of games across all ages, putting considerable emphasis on practices and individual development, all while having a ton of fun.

If my child doesn't play in the traditional system, will they fall behind?

In short, no they will not. We believe players will actually be a step ahead in the long run by playing TOP Hockey. What sets us apart is the emphasis we place on individual skill development, the amazing culture we strive to create with all of our teams, and the high level of coaching that we provide. Also, one of our most important values is that all of our practices and games take place at local arenas, rarely more than a 15 minute drive for most of our families. On average, we save families 7 hours of time per week when compared to a traditional minor hockey team. Our families find that not only do they receive high-quality coaching and a great experience, but that their kids improve tremendously by season's end.
